There were actually two owls...um...very fond of each other. But it was quite dark out at twilight, so other than this pic, they are all strange and blurry.

This year fall felt a long time coming with the extended heat. BUT when it came...it was lovely.

Throughout the fall there are huge corridors of migrating birds. These are red-wing blackbirds.

I had to stop on the side of the road to capture this. Unfortunately the limitations of a lens cannot capture the magnificence of a fall midwestern country sky. Expansive.

I saw this guy from the bridge walkway. He was below me on the bank - thank goodness for zoom!



I started seeing these guys in early September but could not ID them.
I was really hoping it was a sea hawk but I just was not sure...




But FINALLY she got close enough to see clearly, and I managed to get her in my camera frame. What a beauty! We've got ospreys over the dam, folks! Here he is enhanced:
